Hi folks,
I'm writing a business plan and I'm looking for some extra data. Could you complete this survey for me? It does not track respondent's IP addresses or any identifying information. Please fill out as much as you can.
If you'd like to forward it to others, that would be helpful too. It'll only be up for a week or so.
Thanks

I lost the blogging momentum a long time ago and I want it back. I liked having a little outlet for whatever was bouncing around in my head during the day.
Today it is people who won't use public transit. Specifically the people who look at me and say "oh, I don't do the bus - it's so gross". Consider this people: twenty or forty minutes crammed onto a bus with a bunch of strangers each day is less gross than let's say... sucking in unnecessary air pollution. Or looking up at the sky and not being able to see it because of the haze of smog.
I don't think everyone needs to take transit. I do understand that some people need their cars for work and drive it more than to the parking lot at 9 and back home again at 5. I understand that some people need to pick up and drop off children and the current transit system does not support anything but a straight line of travel. But the number of people who get in the car, IDLE IN TRAFFIC, drive into the parkade, leave the car for 8 hours, then head home the same way, IDLING IN TRAFFIC again, only to park the car in the driveway.... well I gotta wonder about them. I have to wonder why their personal taste in transportation supercedes the betterment of our air.
I do the bus to and from work most days. And by most, I mean I drive to work about 5 days out of the year. Once a month, my husband picks me up from the office and we drive home. Once or twice a month he picks me up halfway along my commute home and we drive part way.
But like most people, I'm an office slug and I travel at the same time every day. I leave my 'burb, I come to the urban centre, I reverse it again at the end of the day. And I see the same people day in and day out. And you know what? I've made friends en route. There are people I nod to, others I say hello and make idle chat with. I've met two neighbours with whom I can have an hour long chat with while we travel. You don't ever do that in a car. I've read stacks of novels, listened to books on my mp3 player, made some important phone calls that could only be done before 5PM and therfore, were done while in transit. Most of this stuff I couldn't do in a car or do it safely in a car.
I can even meditate while on the bus.
So the next time you think "Oh, I don't DO the bus", think about what you could be doing ON the bus. Think about how you could make your commute your time out during the day.

I'm a bit better today.
I had a massive meltdown yesterday and now I wonder if that's how I deal with big change and shifts in my life. Meltdown and then climb back up. Dunno yet. But I'm ok.
And I did go swimming.
